Description of Requirements:
Oil and gas (O&G) activities in the 23-million acre National Petroleum Reserve - Alaska (NPR-A) include seismic exploration, exploration drilling, and the development of production well infrastructure. In the NPR-A, a monitoring program is currently in place to help the BLM fulfill its responsibility to encourage environmentally responsible development of energy on public lands. Long-term time series data sets collected at an appropriate spatial scale, coupled with the ongoing evaluation of O&G activities that may affect aquatic resources, enable the BLM to make time-efficient, science-based management decisions that optimize the balance between environmental protection and the pursuit of energy resources. One part of this monitoring is river gauging which measures, calculates, and reports stream discharge and water level. Rating curves, flood frequency, and flood magnitude analyses are critical in guiding infrastructure routing and design, and aid in characterizing hydrologic trends and conditions at a regional scale where water resources provide for multiple uses. To do this safely in high water conditions a RDI River Pro Doppler is required.
